Hypnosis has been known to help reduce the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome such as bloating, abdominal pain, and irregular bowel movements
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a chronic condition that affects the lower part of the gastrointestinal tract. Symptoms can include abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, and bloating.
IBS can sometimes be linked to one or more of the following:
The lower gastrointestinal tract consists of the small and large intestines. The symptoms are caused by muscle contractions in the intestines or by disturbances in brain-gut axis signaling pathways. Either way, this condition can be relieved with changes to diet, and also with the help of Hypnotherapy.
As mentioned above, individuals with IBS are also likely to have other conditions such as anxiety and chronic stress.
The mind has become one of the most important aspects of getting rid of IBS. Symptoms are largely affected by behavior, lifestyle, and the way a person responds to stress.
Stress can lead to a worsening of IBS symptoms in two different ways. For one thing, stress causes an increase in stomach acid production which is not good for someone who already has IBS. And furthermore, chronic stress reduces blood flow to the intestines causing damage from the lack of oxygen and nutrients that normally should be there and leading to more inflammation and pain.
Hypnotherapy for IBS was first introduced into the medical world in the 1970s when Mavis Klein, former Director of the Wellness Center at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, found that hypnosis could reduce pain caused by colon spasms.
For many, hypnosis for IBS symptoms has been very effective. With this treatment, we can take control of our gut health and live a normal life without feeling the effects of digestive issues such as bloating, stomach pains, and discomfort.
We will work together to help you relieve the stress and anxiety that is exacerbating your intestinal problems.
